In the 1920s, the Fitzgeralds held court at the Saint Louis Villa, taking the sea air and entertaining their circle of friends. The Belles Rives (31) still contains rare wooden furniture from the 30s. Picasso, Gérard Philippe, Roman Novarro, Umberto d'Italie, Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf and Miles Davis all stayed there.. |

Built in 1912, the “La Vigie” Villa (32) was bought by Frank-Jay Gould, a Provencal builder. His wife Florence entertained all the celebrities of the day there: Gide, Martin du Gard, Paulhan, Cocteau, Chaplin, Estée Lauder were all invited to her famous lunches. Constructed in Art Déco style, the Provençal was one of the most elegant hotels in Europe. One dined under parasols with the lush pine trees and the azure blue of the Meditteranean sea spread before the hotel. There was only a set meal, intended to spare guests the task of choosing. Entrepreneurs the world over flocked to the splendid hotel.
Le Juana (34) was where Ella Fitzgerald, among others, stayed. Built in 1931 by the architect Dikansky in the pure tradition of the architecture of the day, the hotel remains one of the gems among the hotels in Juan. Since its construction, the outside, which is classed as a historical monument, has not changed. The temple of the International jazz festival, Pinède Gould (35), is to jazz players what La Scala in Milan is to opera singers. Ray Charles and Miles Davis made their European début there, next to the hundred-year old pine trees of the Pinède and Juan-les-Pins bay with its fine sandy beaches, where the sport of water-skiing began. On the Promenade du Soleil (36) dreams the Bather of sculptor Grebel, symbolising a happy, innocent age devoted to the pleasures of the sun and sea.
Happy-go-lucky is the mood in cosmopolitan Juan, visitors are attracted by its unique atmosphere, not be found anywhere else in the world. For those who want to try their luck, there is The Eden Beach Casino (37), where evening suits and evening dresses abound with all the pleasures of the gaming tables. There is also The Exflora Park (38) with the fresh fragrance of 330 species of plants. Designed in the style of great parks in the Cote d'Azur in the last century, there are wonderful walks around its five hectares, walks in time and space, from Ancient Rome to the exuberant 19th century Riviera, Italian and Moroccan areas, all with the enchanting, soothing sound of waterfalls and fountains.
