The beaches of Antibes Juan-les-Pins |
|
On the twenty-five kilometres of coastline along Antibes Juan-les-Pins there are creeks, rocky escarpments and forty-eight beaches, each with its own unique atmosphere. Small beaches where children can play to their hearts' content, long beaches with fine, golden sand, beaches with sun-loungers and family beaches, sporting areas, or beaches purely for sun-worshippers. Each one has its own separate identity: the long beach beyond Fort Carré that gives onto the open sea, fine sand beaches in the old town and Cap d'Antibes such as La Gravette, l'Ilette and La Salis. The Lérins Islands and the Esterel in the distance from the beaches of Juan-les-Pins, and nestled in a little creek on the Cap, La Garoupe beach. |

Juan-les-Pins: Homeland of water-skiing
The first water-skiing federation was founded more than fifty years ago. Joe Lebihan and Léo Roman were the first people of Antibes to experience this new sport in the bay of Juan-les-Pins, where the first world championships were staged in 1949. Antibes Juan-les-Pins is the only Sailing Resort of France that has a water-skiing championship. |

The Lérins Islands |
|
The Lérins Islands are rich in history and dramatic legend. On Sainte-Marguerite, visit Fort Royal where the Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned and Marshall Bazaine escaped. Walk in the ornithological reserve among rich, verdant, fragrant plants. There is a sea museum with antiques and wrecks of Roman and Arabic ships. Saint Honorat Island is the property of Cistercian monks from Sénanques. They grow lavender, vines and oranges and make a delicious liqueur: “La Lérina”. Also of interest is the Neo-Roman church and lapidary museum which displays Roman remains, mediaeval artefacts and icons.
