Voices are raised in response to the works. Critics, writers and curators put the aesthetic experience into words. In the case of Bergman and Hartung, this verbal output was abundant and varied. It is by turns dense, harsh, humorous, deferential, and at times effusive. The formulations, often erudite, sometimes caustic, each seek to capture tensions, rhythms and flows; they contribute to the cultural and historical construction of the images.

Drawing on the archives accumulated by the couple, the Foundation has sought to give voice to this polyphony. Alongside paintings, drawings and prints, visitors will be able to discover and consult the wealth of texts that their creations have inspired over more than six decades. Thus, signatures from influential newspapers and more obscure magazines resurface.
