Danielle Kleczewski-Bézat Exhibition

Born in Paris, the artist studied at the capital’s École supérieure de dessin. Surrounded by other artists, she frequented the Place du Tertre and the Place des Vosges. In the cellars of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, she met Sidney Bechet, the legendary jazz clarinettist. Yet a secret longing haunted her… to flee the capital and live in the mountains. A health issue led her to undergo treatment in Aulus-les-Bains. She left Paris and settled permanently ‘in a magnificent spot, near the Garbet’, as she liked to describe it.
Admiring the talent of the great jazz musicians she had heard in her youth, she began to paint on the theme of jazz, sensing in this music “the voice of a people who suffer and who move her”.
