‘Classics and Contemporary Moderns’ by John Mejia
-
Born in Colombia in 1976, John Mejia arrived in France during the 1998 World Cup, following in the wake of the Colombian national team, and has remained in France ever since.
He has been drawing since he was a small child; he began taking painting lessons and developing his own style.
He admits that he was inspired to take up painting after discovering the works of his compatriot Fernando Botero, and draws inspiration from Gustav Klimt and Lucian Freud.
Living on the Côte d’Azur, John Mejia...Born in Colombia in 1976, John Mejia arrived in France during the 1998 World Cup, following in the wake of the Colombian national team, and has remained in France ever since.
He has been drawing since he was a small child; he began taking painting lessons and developing his own style.
He admits that he was inspired to take up painting after discovering the works of his compatriot Fernando Botero, and draws inspiration from Gustav Klimt and Lucian Freud.
Living on the Côte d’Azur, John Mejia had hesitated, on the evening of 14 July 2016, about going to see the fireworks in Nice, so that his visiting Colombian family could enjoy the display.
Then the unthinkable happened… Upon hearing the news that night, John painted a watercolour which, unbeknownst to him, would go on to be seen around the world: *Pray for Nice*.
