"The object of the moment": A Apulian thymiaterion

  • For four months, visitors will be able to discover an Apulian thymiaterion (perfume burner) from the last quarter of the 4th century BC, acquired by the City in 1988 and rarely exhibited since.
    The illumination of this work, accompanied by olfactory displays, will allow the public to learn more about this object with its complex history and the uses of perfume during Antiquity.

    Olfactive visits and workshops will punctuate the duration of the presentation.

    Olfactory visit followed by a workshop: thumiamata

    The Thymiaterion allows participants to discover the fumigating perfumes used in antiquity.
    Participants will be able to make a perfume recipe made from these burning-grade odorants (thumiamata).
