Gardens have always inspired the greatest artists in the fields of literature, sculpture, painting, cinema and photography. The relationship between artist and garden exists in many forms.
Certain artists, who love their plants as much as their works, are passionate gardeners. Combining gardening and art, they transpose plant elements into their works and infuse their garden with their creative spirit. Fascinated by nature, they sometimes become landscape gardeners to recreate the scenery which best reflects them.
Others consider the garden as a source of inspiration or meditation. The landscaper gives forms, creates perspectives and permits a play of light and shadow. By subliming nature, he in turn is an artist: both a painter, for his sense of couleur and shape, and a poet for the dream, fantasy and imagination which he brings to his creation.
The garden of artists aims to be an inspiring place, placing art at the centre of its creation.
3 gardens are presented for competition in the Pinède Gould pine grove.
Plastic dancer (Danseuse plastique) - By Nerantzia Tzortzi and Julia Georgi.
“In order to compose a Garden of a Mediterranean Artist, we have revisited the collage "Danseur" (1937-1938) by Henri Matisse. ”
Meeting the senses (A la rencontre des sens) – By Kairi Meos.
“The garden has three islands of organic forms around inner areas. These islands are covered in Mediterranean plants. ”
Reflections (Reflets) - By Terideal – Anne Cabrol.
“Our garden brings into play plant-life, reflected elements in which everyone will be able to interpret the work of nature.”
2 gardens not competing :
Joie de vivre in the pine grove (Joie de vivre à la pinède) – Garden designed by Philippe Dalmasso and created by the service Espaces verts (in charge of public parks and gardens) of the Town of Antibes Juan-les-Pins.
“The garden has been named "Joie de vivre à la Pinède" in référence to Matisse’s work intitled "la Joie de Vivre".”
A suspended frame (Un cadre suspendu)
By Campus Vert d’Azur (school in Antibes) with the National Union of Landscape Companies (UNEP) and the Town of Antibes Juan-les-Pins.
“The Garden, intitled "A suspended frame" will guide the viewer through angles and viewpoints to discover the scene..”
